4 PLACES TO SEE THE FALL COLORS IN ANDERSON COUNTY
DEVIL’S TRIANGLE
The Devil’s Triangle starts in Rocky Top, Tennessee with sweeping curves and tight twists that take you along beautiful country roads to Morgan County. It is a popular route for both cars and motorcycles because of the natural beauty you experience along the 45 mile loop. That beauty is taken to a whole new level when fall colors are at their peak! In addition to the beautiful fall colors, you’ll see the Buffalo Mountain Windmill Farm located at Windrock Park and Brushy Mountain Prison which housed James Earl Ray, assassin of Dr. Martin Luther King. The prison is now open to the public for tours, but if you plan to take a tour be sure to check their website for hours of operation. See a map of Devil’s Triangle here.
WINDROCK PARK
Windrock offers over 72,000 acres of off road fun, but is also one of the best places in Anderson County to take in the stunning fall colors that only East Tennessee can offer. Whether you take your side by side, four wheeler, jeep or bike, the views will not disappoint! Keep in mind, Windrock is privately owned and requires a permit which can be bought at the general store. We highly recommend taking the trail up to the Windmills. The views are breathtaking. TIP: If you don’t own a machine, Windrock offers side by side rentals.
NORRIS LAKE BOAT RIDE
Norris Dam State Park is offering fall color boat rides on Norris Lake during the last two weeks of October and we think it’s one of the best ways to see the gorgeous fall colors in Anderson County. The narrated boat ride will take about an hour and requires a reservation, so be sure to check online or give them a call at 865-425-4500. You may even get lucky enough to see a river otter or eagle on your boat ride!
RESERVOIR HILL OVERLOOK
The Norris Watershed has almost 30 miles of trails for visitors to enjoy. One of our favorite trails to see the full array of fall colors in Anderson County is the Reservoir Hill Trail. The great thing about this trail is you can enjoy the spectacular view by hiking or if you aren’t much of a hiker, you can reach the overlook by vehicle. The elevation is 1,360 feet and the view is out of this world regardless of how you get to the top! To reach the overlook by vehicle, follow Reservoir Road to Reservoir Hill Road in the city of Norris and there will be signs to follow. To see a trail map, click here.
