4 SURPRISING THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT WINDROCK PARK

With over 72,000 acres of off-road excitement, Windrock Park is the premier destination for outdoor adventure! The trail system there is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, so you can enjoy it any time. Windrock is huge and there are tons of things to do, so chances are there are a few activities and fun facts that you weren’t aware of. To help you make the most of your visit, here are 4 things you didn’t know about Windrock Park.

1. THERE’S A WINDMILL FARM

The Buffalo Mountain Wind Farm is one of the most visited attractions atWindrock Park! It’s comprised of 18 windmills, and the 15 largest ones have a 256-foot tower with 139-foot blades and span 395 feet! There is no admittance beyond the US Government Restricted Area gate for safety reasons. However, the view of these giant windmills is still captivating and something that the whole family can do together. The windmills also make the perfect backdrop for photos!

2. EAST TENNESSEE’S BEST DOWNHILL MOUNTAIN BIKE COURSE

Windrock Park is home to East Tennessee’s best downhill mountain bike course (Windrock Bike Park) and some amazing cross-country trails! So, if you’re an expert rider, this should be at the top of your bucket list! The downhill and cross-country trails are all rated difficult to extreme, making them perfect for riders looking for a new challenge! They consist of steep, rocky and technical descents and offer trail features such as natural and man-made drops and jumps. Be sure to pay attention to signage that indicates the difficulty level of the various trails in the park. If you don’t feel like loading up your bike and a bunch of equipment, Windrock Park also offers rentals on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

3. ALL OFF-ROAD VEHICLES ARE WELCOME

There are 314.4 miles of trails available in Windrock Park, and there’s a trail for nearly every kind of off-road vehicle. They range from gravel roads to extreme mountainous terrain, so you can choose your adventure! Some of them are restricted to ATV and dirt bike use only, so just be sure to check which ones allow your vehicle beforehand. All trails are marked with a trail number and are clearly shown on the trail map. Learn more about the rules and regulations on Windrock’s website to ensure that you can have a fun and safe trip.

4. THERE’S A SHOOTING RANGE NEARBY

Windrock Shooting Range is locally owned & operated shooting and training range, located just a short distance from the Trailhead in the park. It offers 8 outdoor shooting ranges, firearm rentals to include fully automatic firearms, training programs, and a full time, on-site NRA Certified Range Safety Officer(s). There are targets and ranges for a variety of experience levels, so whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned shooter, you’re sure to have a great time!
