5 INSTAGRAM WORTHY SPOTS IN ANDERSON COUNTY
Anderson County is full of natural beauty everywhere you look, but we want to share some of our most Instagram-worthy destinations so you can up your social media game. Windrock Park Overlook aka “Top of Windrock” – With over 73,000 acres to explore at Windrock Park, it’s easy to forget to take in the views! The overlook is absolutely worth a stop, and of course, a picture. You can reach the overlook by atv (rentals are available) or in your 4×4 vehicle. Try and go on a sunny day because rain or fog may obstruct the view. On a clear day you can see Mt. LeConte and a fun fact to know while your there is that it is 67 miles as the crow flies to the top of LeConte from the overlook. You can also plainly see downtown Knoxville on a clear day. (Directions – from the General Store you go approx 3 miles up P1 to G2. Follow G2 approx 2 more miles to G9. Turn left on G9 and go 1/2 mile to overlook.) Get your camera ready, it is quite the view!
Norris Dam Overlook – the Norris Dam overlook provides you with a panoramic view of Norris Lake, the dam and the Clinch River. Each season brings a new perspective to the spot, so anytime of the year makes a beautiful picture. Just let your camera do the talking at this Instagram worthy spot! Tip: continue taking in the gorgeous views along Songbird Loop, a 2 mile walking trail below the dam with up close views of the Clinch River and the dam.
Historic Downtown Clinton – There’s just something about quaint downtown areas that give you feelings of nostalgia and of simpler times. Historic Downtown Clinton gives you that and more! Antique and specialty stores, coffee shops and a whole lot of history give you the perfect back drop for some amazing photos. Cannon in Rocky Top – Get off the beaten path and you’ll find a very unique instagrammable spot in Rocky Top. The cannon at Militia Hill tells a unique story of the Coal Creek War. The cannon is located where the militia was stationed during the war and surprisingly, you can still see the trenches that were dug by the militia. The cannon points out over the city of Rocky Top, formerly known as Coal Creek and gives visitors a glimpse of history. Melton Hill Lake Greenway – With over 5 miles of a gorgeous, waterfront trail, it’s easy to see why we chose Melton Lake Greenway as an Instagram worthy spot. You have views of the mountains and beautiful, still water and you’ll even see an old railroad bridge that looks great in photos. Don’t be surprised if you see a rowing team or two practicing a run down the waterway, as Melton Hill Lake is known to be one of the top rowing venues in the country. Tip: along the greenway there is a picnic area and playground, so grab the kiddos, pack a lunch and make a day of it!
