SPRING WEEKEND GETAWAYS IN ANDERSON COUNTY

The Nature Lover – Trade in the old nine to five for fresh mountain air and breathtaking views. Norris Dam State Park offers quaint cabins where you can surround yourself with nature or if you’d prefer a more rustic experience, feel free to bring your tent along. Situated on more than 4,000 acres and surrounded by Norris Lake, the park offers fantastic hiking and biking. It’s also a prime destination for birdwatching and wildflower viewing. Nature lovers will enjoy exploring miles of trails and the majestic views of Norris Lake and the Clinch River. In addition to the outdoor activities that the park offers, the Lenoir Museum Cultural Complex is a must see for park visitors. The complex includes the Lenoir Pioneer Museum, an 18^th century Rice Grist Mill and Crosby Threshing Barn.

The Fishing Enthusiast – Anderson County offers great spring fishing, from trout fishing on the Clinch River to bass and striper fishing on Norris Lake and even musky fishing on Melton Hill Lake. If you’re looking for a successful fishing weekend, look no further! The Clinch River is known as a premier trout fishery and is home to rainbow, brown and brook trout. The state record brown trout was caught on the Clinch, so you have a good chance of a big catch! Trout are stocked beginning in March, so spring is a great time to plan a trip. Norris Lake is home to 14 different species of fish, but its best known for bass fishing. Fishing is good year round, but spring time seems to be a favorite among many. Melton Hill Lake has over 170 miles of shoreline, so there are plenty of places to wet a line, from shore or a boat. Musky, striped bass and crappie seem to be the angler favorites on Melton Hill. The Adventure Seeker – Windrock Park is the place to be for the ultimate adventure seeker! The park offers over 350 miles of trails for off-roading. Jeeps, atv’s, side by sides, rock bouncers…you name it, you can bring it to Windrock. If you don’t own a machine, side by side rentals are available.
