APPALACHIAN ARTS CRAFTS CENTER
The Appalachian Arts Craft Center has a gallery featuring the work of more than 70 local artists, including pottery, quilts, jewelry, weavings, woodworking, photography, and much more. Artists who sell in the gallery have been juried in to assure high quality in the products sold. There is also classroom and studio space for arts and craft classes held year round. The center was founded in 1970 in a small building with no running water. Still, crafters got together regularly to assist each other in teaching, producing, and selling handmade crafts. Today, the center has a large facility (including water) and has grown into a highly respected shop and educational facility. The center is visited by people from around the world, but local people and visitors still gather to share creative ideas and talents, keeping the traditional crafts alive as well as pursuing more contemporary work.
